Hide and Seek

Updated: Sep 19, 2022

Where can I hide from Your Spirit?

Where can I flee from Your presence?

If I go to heaven,

You are there!

If I make my bed in the nest of my sins,

You are there!

If I say the darkness will cover me,

and the light around me will dim,

even the darkness is not dark to You.

For the night is as bright as the day

and darkness is as light with you.

Where can I hide from Your Spirit?

Where can I flee from Your presence?

If I take the wings of the morning,

You are there!

If I dwell in the deep parts of the sea,

You are there!

Lord, You have searched me, and known me! You know when I sit,

You know when I rise,

You know when I think, and even when a word is on my tongue,

behold, O Lord, you know it all together.

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb.

My frame was not hidden from you when I was being made in secret,

Intricately woven in the depths of the earth.

Where can I hide from Your Spirit?

Where can I flee from Your Presence?

Your eyes saw my unformed substance

In your book were written every one of the days you formed for me before a single night fell.

You are acquainted with all my ways.

I can't hide from you even when I try.

I can't hide from you even when I sin.

And even there, Your hand will guide me,

and Your right hand will hold me.

You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me.

I praise you, for I am seen by You.

Psalm 139.
